1「断ち切られた者（アブタル）」とは語源的に、男児がいない者、尻尾（しっぽ）のない家畜のことで、それが転じて、「その後に善きものが残らないような全てのこと」を指す言葉（アル＝クルトゥビー2０：22３参照）。マッカ*の不信仰者*らは、預言者*に「死んでしまえば、その後に語り継がれることもない者」「男児が夭折（ようせつ）したため、跡継（あとつ）ぎのない者」などと悪口を言ったものだった（イブン・カスィール８：５０４ー５０５参照）。しかし実際のところ、そうなるのは彼ら預言者*の敵なのであり、預言者*はといえば、その子孫も名声も徳も復活の日*まで続くのである（アル＝バイダーウィー５：５３７参照）。
