1(1-3) यहाँ अल्लाह को उसके तीन गुणों के साथ याद करके उसकी शरण लेने की शिक्षा दी गई है। एक उसका सब मानवजाति का पालनहार और स्वामी होना। दूसरे उसका सभी इनसानों का अधिपति और शासक होना। तीसरे उसका इनसानों का सत्य पूज्य होना। भावार्थ यह है कि (मैं) उस अल्लाह की शरण माँगता हूँ जो इनसानों का पालनहार, शासक और पूज्य होने के कारण उनपर पूरा नियंत्रण और अधिकार रखता है। जो वास्तव में, उस बुराई से इनसानों को बचा सकता है, जिससे वे स्वयं बचने और दूसरों को बचाने में अक्षम हैं, उसके सिवा कोई है भी नहीं जो शरण दे सकता हो।
